Zombie survival guide tip #1 Resources

Yeah. I'm going there. This blog will be split up into tips of the day. These tips will be in no particular order. Not much else to say about that. So let's start this off, shall we?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Resources is a general term for the following:

-food
-water

The average human can last between 4 and 8 weeks without food before vitals shut down completely.
The average human can last between 3 and 5 days without water. Given this, it's obvious which should be more accounted for.

There are a few things you must take into account before deciding how much of what to have. For example, will you be on the move? Stationary? These are the three I will cover for this portion of the guide.

Note: If in a group, multiply the requirements by each person. example- 1 gallon/water per person.

On the move

If you're on the move you will have two major factors to take into consideration.
1. Traveling light
2. Making up for (if on foot) the increase in need for both food and water.

A female needs between 1000 and 1300 calories a day to avoid going into starvation mode. Take note that this is at rest. When on a constant run from the impending horde, I would personally suggest consuming no less then 2000 a day.

for a male this figure is between 1200 and 1500. Again, this is at rest and I suggest no less then 2000 if on the run.

Food
The best type of food to bring is something you can eat on the go or quickly with little to no preperation time. For this reason I suggest above all else Military ready meals or MRE's. These can be picked up in mass from just about any army surplus store. Relatively light and easy to store, they have everything you need in a meal with plenty of calories.

Water

Depending on where you are traveling, water may be a major problem or the easiest thing to find quickly. To stay hydrated the average person needs up to one gallon a day. Most of us today don't drink that, substituting instead for juices, sodas, coffees, etc. This must be avoided at all costs. These products do not keep you hydrated for long.

I suggest carrying 2 gallons, contained in the basic gallon-of-water jug, per person. Water is relatively heavy when you consider traveling with it, which is why I suggest carrying no more then 4. A gallon of water weighs approximately 8.5lbs. Avoid arid, dry places. Chances of finding water in these areas is slim.

Stationary

This is for those who intend on building a stronghold in any given place. The best thing about doing this is you have the potential of lasting for a very long period of time. Stock up on a year's worth of food and water. Make sure to consume a gallon of water a day and keep yourself between 1500-2000 calories a day. Other then the obvious, there isn't much else to it.
